BOON TONG KEE | A TASTE OF SINGAPORE

August 29, 2015

Experience authentic Singaporean cuisine at its finest at Boon Tong Kee Philippines! It features a melting pot of flavors, warm ambiance, and elegantly plated dishes at affordable prices. Boon Tong Kee’s best dishes include Cereal Prawns, Seafood Laksa, and, of course, Hainanese Chicken.

Laksa is one of my favorite dishes. It is the only dish I eat daily when I travel to Singapore. Boon Tong Kee’s SEAFOOD LAKSA is seasoned perfectly and the spicy taste does not overwhelm the dish. It is made out of noodles, prawns, and tofu, cooked in Laksa broth then topped with a hard boiled egg and beansprouts. It was a pleasant surprise to finally find mouthwatering laksa in the Philippines that tastes as good as the ones in Singapore.

History of Boon Tong Kee Philippines

Boon Tong Kee is a family-run restaurant chain from Singapore that is rooted in tradition, dedication to quality, and authenticity. It was brought to the Philippines by the Rodriguez family, who have been a presence in the food industry, with Sbarro, Burgoo, and Gumbo, for more than three decades. With common family values and the commitment to provide excellent quality, the two families come together to bring their patrons the most authentic Singaporean experience.

History of Boon Tong Kee

In 1979, Mr. Thian Boon Hua started a small stall in Chinatown serving Cantonese chicken rice. Building upon the popularity of his silky white sauce chicken rice and emphasis on quality service, he rallied his family members to establish BTK’s first restaurant in Balestier Road in 1983.

In its 2nd year of operations, the restaurant started to garner rave reviews and accolades from industry luminaries and customers. Before long, outlets at MacPherson road, Whampoa West, River Valley Road, Cheong Chin Nam Road, and East Coast Road followed in rapid succession.

The company diversified its operations in 1999 to include “Zi Char” (Home-style cooked food) and eateries. From the traditional Balestier road outlet to the upscale River Valley branch, Boon Tong Kee has enthralled Singaporeans and tourists alike with its delectable food and friendly staff.

Honored to meet Boon Tong Kee’s Head Chef, Christian Conanan, alongside my fellow bloggers Janeena Chan and Lexie Puzon. Special thanks to Boon Tong Kee for having us.

CRISPY BEANCURD

Tofu, coated with batter, fried, and served with green tea mayo and pork floss.

This dish is crunchy on the outside but moist on the inside–a unique take on tofu. It goes perfectly with the pork floss and freshly made Green Tea Mayo.

PRAWN TOAST

Minced prawn on toast, fried, and garnished with cilantro and fish roe. Served with green tea mayo.

POACHED SPINACH

Poached spinach, with chicken stock, salted egg, century egg, roasted garlic and dried fish.

Mango Shake, Barley, and Lemonade.

Barley is a specialty drink made out of cereal grains. It features a refreshing taste with a hint of sweetness. It also has a variety of health benefits. Boon Tong Kee’s unlimited Barley drink is definitely a must-try beverage.

SWEET & SOUR PORK

Fried pork, sauteed in sweet and sour sauce with assorted vegetables.

SAMBAL RICE

Spicy and sweet stir-fried rice topped with pork floss and peanuts.

Mandatory #OOTD shot with the lovely Janeena Chan.

FRENCH BEANS

French beans, scallops, and carrots, sauteed in X.O. Sauce topped with peanuts.

BOILED CHICKEN

Chicken boiled in different herbs and spices. Served with Dark Soy Sauce and Ginger Paste.

This dish features juicy chicken served with specialty sauces (dark soy sauce, ginger paste, and chili paste) flown in from Singapore.

CEREAL PRAWNS

Fried prawns, cooked in cereal and floss, topped with curry leaves and chili.

Sink your teeth into succulent crunchy prawns topped with buttery floss. This was definitely the highlight of the night. It not only tastes good but it looks amazing as well. Not to mention, the big serving size.
