Transitioning from your college wardrobe to your corporate wardrobe may seem like a stretch but there are easy ways to come up with awesome outfits that don’t break the bank as you venture into the corporate world.

College wardrobe typically consists of everyday pieces like pants, skirts, shorts, shirts, and the like. Believe it or not, you can actually reuse all of these casual pieces when you venture into the corporate world. It’s just a matter of styling it differently and utilizing a few key pieces.

To elevate your wardrobe without spending a fortune, all you need are 5 key pieces; a blazer, a pair of trousers, a pair of nude heels, a handbag, and a watch. When in doubt, go for at least one of these key pieces…better yet, go for all of these key pieces.

When buying a blazer or a pair of trousers, pay close attention to the fit. For these pieces, fit is everything. It really doesn’t matter where you buy, as long as it fits you perfectly. If you can’t seem to find pieces that fit well, then have them altered or (if you have the budget for it) have them custom made especially for you. When picking a pair of nude heels, make sure you feel comfortable in them. Nude colored heels are very important because they go with absolutely anything and they give the illusion of longer legs (who wouldn’t want that?). When picking a watch and a bag, go for simple and sleek styles so it looks more professional. Remember to go for neutral colors. All 5 pieces can be easily found at department stores and high-end boutiques.

When you finally have all of your key pieces, it’s time to have some fun putting together professional yet comfortable outfits. Your favorite white t-shirt and jeans can be dressed up with a blazer, nude heels, and a watch. Your little black dress would look sophisticated with the heels and a sleek bag. Your favorite printed t-shirt would look awesome with basic trousers. The outfit possibilities are endless!
