Crackle nail art is a simple but interesting way to decorate nails. Crackle nail polish creates a beautiful distressed effect. It is easy to achieve this look – all you need is clear polish, color polish, and crackle polish.

Crackle polish can be found anywhere – from high-end boutiques to department stores. This particular crackle polish was gifted from Hong Kong.

Step 1: Apply a base coat of clear polish

This protects the nails from staining and enables the nail polish to last longer on the nail. I use Bobbie Premium clear nail polish.

Step 2: Apply the solid color polish

Apply up to two layers of the solid color nail polish or until the color becomes even and opaque. Any solid color can be used, but the best one is a color that contrasts the crackle polish color. This dark gray Love & Beauty nail polish from Forever 21 matches my light pink crackle polish perfectly.

Step 3: Apply one layer of crackle polish

When the solid color polish dries, brush on a layer of crackle polish. It will look like normal nail polish at first, but after a few seconds the cracks will form.

Tip: Brush on the crackle polish only once so as not to disturb the crackling process

Step 4: Apply a final layer of clear polish

When the crackle polish dries, apply a final coat of clear polish to seal everything together. This enables the polish to stay on longer and prevents chipping.

Voila! That is how to create crackled nails.

P.S. I would love to see your nail art masterpieces – send me photos!
