When it comes to traveling, people often overlook the importance of packing the proper wardrobe. It may not seem like such a big deal but what you wear can actually make or break your trip. I came up with a fool proof way to make anyone a packing genius for any type of trip to anywhere in the world.
Traveling to a completely different country is always an amazing adventure. If you have no idea how to dress for that particular country then your trip will be anything but amazing. Imagine packing your beachwear clothing to a trip to Korea–that has disaster written all over. Continue reading for my tips and tricks to dressing for various travel destinations.
The inspiration for this blog post is my trip to the Capital of the United States–Washington, D.C. I am not ashamed to admit that it is actually my obsession with House Of Cards that drove me to travel all the way to Washington. It’s been years since my last trip to America so, of course, I packed all the wrong things and ended up buying a whole new wardrobe when I arrived. You do not want to go through that, trust me.
Luckily, you can all learn from my mistakes. Based on my previous faux pas, I was able to come up with a fool proof way to prep for any trip, anytime, and anywhere.
How to Dress Around the World
1. Do Your Research
Before anything else, you need to educate yourself on the location you will be going to. Pay special attention to the areas you will frequent and, of course, the season. The easiest way to do this is to find answers on the world wide web – everything you need to know is just a click away. You can also ask your friends or family members who are knowledgeable on the country you will be visiting.
Familiarize yourself with the various locations you will be visiting, activities you will be taking on and, of course, the weather.
2. Pack What You Already Have
Traveling costs money, so it is important to maximize the wardrobe you already have when packing clothing for your trip. Make do with what you have and you will have more money to spend on your trip instead of blowing it all on unnecessary clothing pieces.
Remember to factor in everything you discovered during the research phase when planning out your outfits.
3. Borrow or Buy Key Pieces
After looking through your closet for outfit options, decide if you are missing key pieces of clothing to complete your ensembles. Make sure to only buy or borrow clothing pieces that are absolutely necessary. Think about it this way, If you won’t freeze to death or faint from heatstroke without it then it’s an unnecessary item.
The Heat Tech clothing pieces from Uniqlo, for example, are necessary pieces to wear when traveling to countries with cold temperatures. Heat Tech enables you to wear fewer layers while keeping your body warm.
4. Plan Various Combinations
It is always better to plan outfits ahead of time. This is so when you are actually on your vacation you won’t stress over coming up with the perfect outfit for the day.
It also helps to fold entire outfits together when you pack so it’s easier for you to unpack and dress up with ease.
5. Comfort & Fit is Key
Always remember that the fit of clothing on you and the way it makes you feel is very important. Always consider the comfort and fit when planning out your outfits.
